Aim: There is an alarming resurgence of new HIV cases among young men who have sex with men (YMSM) between the ages of 15 and 24 in the United States, highlighting the importance of re-examining prevention modalities and behavior change strategies. Racial/ethnic minority YMSM, in particular, experience the greatest increase in HIV incidence and structural barriers to care. The role of eHealth in HIV prevention and care is increasingly recognized for its appeal among young audiences, its ability to effectively reach and engage key populations across the prevention and care continuum. HIV-related eHealth strategies are particularly promising for YMSM given their suitability to deliver tailored content across text messaging, smartphone app or web platforms, and their reach and diffusion across large geographic locations. While the use of technology to address the prevention and care continuum at the individual-level has received increasing attention, there is limited research examining how eHealth strategies recognize and/or help reduce structural barriers affecting YMSM’s access and retention in HIV-related prevention and care services. This presentation will (1) describe how eHealth interventions may aid to identify and address structural challenges (e.g., costs, transportation, stigma, poor quality care) faced by YMSM within the HIV prevention and care continuum, and (2) briefly review ongoing efforts that employ eHealth as catalysts for structural change among YMSM in the United States.
