Aim: Since 1980, more than one hundred Canadian videos have been produced that deal with sex work and/or HIV / AIDS! We have chosen excerpts from 34 videos and films in order to bring to the fore a range of excellent testimonials that deliver messages of critical importance. In these testimonials, people have spoken out about discrimination, stigma, and violence while also exploring topics such as activism, solidarity and the courage it takes to tell one?s story.

Method / Issue: These compilations are part of a larger action research project entitled Testimonial Cultures involving a multisectorial collaboration with a number of Canadian community and institutional partners (Stella, COCQ-Sida, GRIS-Montreal, PolitiQ, Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling at Concordia University, Feminist Research Institute at UQAM). Testimonial Cultures examines the ways in which testimonials in the public sphere and the media can be used to amplify the voice and visibility of sex workers, people living with HIV and sexual and gender minorities in order to promote community development and inspire social change.

Results / Comments: The DVD compilation will be used for educational purposes, research, training, and outreach activities.
