Aim: Describe the role of self-support groups as retention strategy of PLWHA in health facilities.

Method / Issue: This is a prospective study begun in December 2011 and which is in progress.
The strategy has been the implementation and the strengthening of self-support groups. To do this, we have developed standards for their creation, which define in terms of number of PLWHA, need to create a talk group, the mandatory offer of collation, the definition of topics to be discussed, the distribution of food kits during meetings and the reimbursement of travel expenses for participants. Tools for data collection containing the geographical address and the reasons for membership were available to them.

Results / Comments: 96 groups of self support implemented on 138 health facilities in 05 months.
36 groups meet twice a month and the 60 other, once a month with a monthly theme to discuss.
Groups which meet twice a month have each made two home visits to patients missing during meetings or visits for biological control or renewal of ART treatment. The 60 other have made one visit a month.
After 05 months of activities, the 96 groups have made a total of 660 home visits enabling to recover 660 patients lost, 06 months after the beginning of ART treatment.

Discussion: Reduce the number of lost in PLWHA Care programs in our underdeveloped countries requires inexorably the implementation and the management of self-support groups.
