Aim: Symposium Rationale
It is increasingly recognized by national and international organizations that public health disciplines related to sexual behavior may benefit by identifying common parameters of health related to sexuality and by promoting an overarching framework of sexual health. Such an approach has the potential to enhance a wellness orientation, reduce stigma, and encourage much-needed dialogue by the public, providers, and policymakers. Advancing a sexual health framework may have unique benefit for the field of HIV/STI prevention, given the spectrum of society affected by these infections and the stigma with which they are associated.
